We take the caravan on a barge across the Daintree River to get to Cape Tribulation. The rain forest goes right to the ocean. Imala and Moss go coconut hunting one morning and come back victorious! Moss finally manages to get it open… what a feast! The kids make aboriginal spears and sling shots: they are pretty wild…

We then leave the caravan behind and take the Bloomfield track to Cooktown: we cross a couple of creeks (standard procedure by now) and climb a couple of very steep 33% roads (good idea to leave the caravan behind!). We stay the night at the Lion’s Den and sleep in a “tree house” tent. We are so excited to sleep outside the caravan! In Cooktown we learn that Captain Cook’s crew got stranded here for several months fixing the Endeavour. We imagine them in this tropical country… We visit Cooktown’s old building as the harbour used to be bigger than Brisbane during the golden rush.

We are then off to Etty Beach, South of Cairns, where we get to meet several Cassowaries!! What amazing ancient animals. They are gracious and sure of themselves. There are small 2-foot waves and Moss and Teo have a little surf! (the first one in months!!)
